CEO Profile

Yoshiko Le'olani Yao

Before graduating from High School, I was encouraged by my mother to learn Hula.
After a few years, I went to Hawaii to study under Kumu Hula "Leimomi Ho".
During my study time in Hawaii, I volunteered as a tour guide at the Bishop Museum, The State Museum of Hawaiian Cultural and Natural History.
I also became interested in regional religion and was of volunteer service at Hawaii Izumo Taisha Shrine, a popular shinto shrine established in 1923 in Honolulu.
I returned to Japan and received permission in 1999 to establish a Hula Halau of my own, known today as "Ka Pa Hula 'O Kealaula".
As a member of "Keali'ika'apunihonua Ke'ena A'o Hula", I participated in the Kamehameha Hula Competition in 2004 and 2005 and shared in the Combined Auana Division Award.
Efforts are now to combine Hula, Stage Composition and Special Effects to conduct a yearly "Halau Ho'ike" or also known as stage exhibition.
In 2008, Kealaula Corporation was established and in the spring of 2011 the studio of "Ka Pa Hula 'O Kealaula" was opened in Hirakata-city, the same town of my birth.
